Всемирный день борьбы с диабетом

November 14 is World Diabetes Day.

To maintain health and reduce the risk of diabetes, it’s important to monitor your weight, regularly evaluate your carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and undergo regular checkups. Moderate physical activity, adequate fluid intake, and a balanced diet that reduces carbohydrates, saturated fats, fast food, and refined foods are also important.

On November 13-14, a direct telephone line was set up in healthcare organizations in the Brest region:

  • Healthcare Institution “Brest Regional Endocrinology Dispensary”
    8 (0162) 52-50-83, call from 9:00 to 12:00

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF, 2025), 589 million adults (aged 20-79) worldwide live with diabetes—approximately one in nine adults. By 2050, the number of adults with diabetes is projected to grow to 853 million. At the beginning of this year, 407,687 patients with diabetes were under medical supervision in the Republic of Belarus, including 19,691 with type 1 diabetes and 383,558 with type 2 diabetes. The annual increase in the number of patients with diabetes in our country is 5-8%.

To raise awareness of diabetes, World Diabetes Day is celebrated worldwide on November 14. This year, the theme is “Diabetes and Well-Being,” with a special focus on “Diabetes and the Workplace.” The theme emphasizes the need to create work environments that allow people with diabetes to remain healthy, active, and productive, as well as receive timely support from employers and colleagues.

The workplace plays a key role in diabetes prevention and management, as adults spend a significant portion of their lives at work. Access to screenings, educational programs, healthy eating, and opportunities for physical activity can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and improve the quality of life for those already living with the condition.

That’s why our country will launch a large-scale campaign to educate the public about diabetes and screen workers for diabetes in the workplace. Healthcare workers will identify risk factors and determine blood glucose levels for the early detection of diabetes.
