International Energy Saving Day

November 11 is International Energy Saving Day.

On this day, countries participating in this initiative host events aimed at educating the public about the importance of efficient energy use, energy conservation methods, and existing opportunities for using renewable energy sources. Many cities around the world host thematic conferences, exhibitions, and events, and educational institutions offer energy conservation classes.

To raise public awareness of the rational use of resources and the development of renewable energy sources, the Republic of Belarus supported and joined the celebration of International Energy Saving Day. In 2025, the Republic of Belarus will celebrate International Energy Saving Day for the seventeenth time.

In Belarus, work in the field of energy conservation and the development of renewable energy sources has been underway for over 20 years. The authorized body in the field of energy conservation is the Department of Energy Efficiency of the State Standardization Committee of the Republic of Belarus, which implements state energy conservation policy.

Energy conservation is a multifaceted process, encompassing various areas of human activity. Essentially, it is a way of life for a nation and a society, developing a specific psychological algorithm for behavior. The future of our country largely depends on the behavioral values instilled in children during their education. Undoubtedly, environmental education and upbringing, as well as the instilling of skills for the careful use of humanity’s energy resources, play a key role in this process. The education system plays a leading role in this process.

Modern society consumes ever more energy, driven by the growing population, the modernization of electrical appliances in homes, and the expansion of industrial production. It’s no coincidence that energy conservation is considered one of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.

Focusing on energy conservation on all forms of energy isn’t enough just on November 11, International Energy Saving Day. Every person on our planet who wants to preserve it for future generations must work daily to reduce energy consumption in their home or workplace.

To contribute to energy conservation, you don’t necessarily have to actively participate in ongoing and organized events. It’s enough if you:

  • Know and, where possible, implement energy-saving measures at home, and be aware of the energy consumption characteristics of various household appliances. For example, using energy-saving LED lamps or emptying the vacuum cleaner’s dust container immediately after cleaning will not only save energy but also reduce your utility bills;
  • Conduct regular monitoring of heat loss in your home;
  • prevent heat leaks from your home (insulate window frames, doorways, walls, etc.);
  • turn off the lights after leaving the room;
  • install multi-tariff electricity meters instead of regular ones;
  • Turn off televisions, chargers, and other electrical appliances at night that do not affect your comfort or health.
