April 28 – World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Every year on 28 April the International Labour Organization (ILO) celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work focusing on a topical issue related to occupational safety and health.

In the Republic of Belarus, occupational safety issues are given unconditional priority. The employee’s right to safe work is one of the most important guarantees in the field of labor established by the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. The importance of this area of ​​work is difficult to overestimate. Occupational safety measures are designed to save the lives and health of thousands of workers.

In recent years, the republic’s policy in the field of labor protection has been aimed at introducing new forms and methods of preventive work to prevent industrial injuries.

The main methods of implementing the management of state policy in the field of labor protection are:

  • functioning of industry and territorial occupational safety and health management systems (hereinafter referred to as SHMS);
  • improvement of the SHMS in subordinate organizations (located in the subordinate territory), aimed at identifying and minimizing professional risks of injury to workers;
  • consideration at meetings of collegial bodies:
    • issues of labor protection and conditions, prevention of industrial injuries, compliance with the requirements of the Directive of the President of the Republic of Belarus of March 11, 2004 No. 1 “On measures to strengthen public safety and discipline”;
    • reports of the heads of subordinate organizations (part of, located in the subordinate territory) on ensuring labor protection, labor and production discipline;
    • circumstances and causes of industrial accidents with serious consequences with the development of measures to address occupational safety issues specific to the industry;
  • analysis of the results of certification of workplaces according to working conditions, causes of industrial injuries and occupational diseases in subordinate (located in the subordinate territory) organizations;
  • holding annual industry and territorial reviews and competitions for the best organization of work on labor protection with the aim of developing a culture of labor protection among employees and managers;
  • organizing and holding Occupational Safety Days and other similar events in subordinate organizations (located in the subordinate territory);
  • holding seminars and conferences on labor protection.
