10 октября - Всемирный День психического здоровья

Mental health (according to the World Health Organization) is a state of well-being in which an individual can realise his or her potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and make a contribution to his or her community.

Mental health is not the absence of mental disorders. Being mentally healthy is a basic human right. It is also essential for personal, social and socio-economic development.

Mental health disorders are an umbrella term that includes mental disorders, psychosocial disabilities, and other mental health conditions associated with significant stress, functional impairment or risk of self-harm.

What could be the reasons for contacting a psychotherapist – guilt, anxiety, mood swings, unreasonable sadness and sorrow, lack of joy in life, frequent bouts of irritability and anger, panic attacks, unpleasant or strange sensations in the body, loss of interest in favorite activities, constant feeling of fatigue, insomnia, lack of appetite or overeating, influx of unpleasant memories, desire to harm oneself: burn, cut or pierce the skin, a feeling of futility of life, thoughts of suicide, and also if you have become a victim of violence.

In the Republic of Belarus, seeking psychotherapeutic help is a purely voluntary decision, does not entail any social consequences, and also constitutes a medical secret and information about this cannot be disclosed without the patient’s consent.

Be healthy!
