The national information and educational campaign “Belarus Against Tobacco” timed to coincide with World No Tobacco Day, celebrated annually on May 31, will be held in our country from May 11 to June 5. Its initiator is the Ministry of Health of Belarus with the participation of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Oncology and Medical Radiology named after N. N. Alexandrov, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center “Cardiology”, and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pulmonology and Phthisiology.
The theme for May 31, 2026, is “Exposing the Bait – Confronting Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction.” This motto recalls a new wave of threats, where old dangers are disguised as innovations, and traditional cigarettes are supplemented by a whole arsenal of technological devices aimed at the most vulnerable generation.
The main goal of the anti-tobacco campaign is to raise public awareness about the negative impact of tobacco and nicotine-containing products on the human body, about ways to quit smoking, the use of nicotine-containing products, the use of electronic smoking systems, tobacco consumption systems, and about organizations that provide assistance in quitting smoking.
As part of the national information and educational campaign “Belarus Against Tobacco,” thematic events on the prevention of tobacco smoking and the consumption of nicotine-containing products (campaigns, marathons, flash mobs, trainings, competitions, lectures, seminars, etc.) are planned in all regions, including for pupils and students of general secondary, secondary vocational, and higher education institutions. The program also includes press events, roundtable discussions on current issues of preventing the consumption of tobacco and nicotine-containing products, public consultations on issues of preventing the consumption of tobacco and nicotine-containing products (including through hotlines), conducting surveys on issues of preventing tobacco smoking and the consumption of nicotine-containing products, publishing and distributing informational and educational materials (leaflets, booklets, memos, brochures, etc.), and posting information in the media and on organizations’ websites.
The anti-smoking campaign is a great start to maintaining and strengthening your health in a new life without nicotine.
